Convicted child sex offender and former BBC Wales presenter Ben Thomas has been jailed for 10 years for his crimes.
The 44-year-old deviant, who had recently become a man of the cloth, admitted the following offences when he appeared at Mold Crown Court on 17th July 2020:
- 10 counts of sexual activity with a child;
- 8 counts of sexual assault;
- 4 counts of attempted sexual assault;
- 9 counts of indecent assault;
- 7 counts of voyeurism;
- 2 counts of making indecent videos of children.
The prolific sexual predator was working at the BBC until 2005, so it doesn't take a genius to work out that some of his crimes were probably committed during his term of employment with the national broadcaster.
Thomas targeted vulnerable young men and boys over a 30 year period. Most of his offences were committed when the victims were asleep, so some of them have little recollection of events. He would grope their bodies and take videos for his own perverted pleasure.
The court heard that in the guise of a "respected church leader" Thomas would take youngsters away on residential visits, during which he would use hidden cameras to spy on their most intimate moments.
Yesterday, during a remote hearing at Mold Crown Court, Thomas was jailed for 10 years and 4 months.
Judge Timothy Petts, sentencing, said: "For nearly 30 years you hid a dark secret, namely that you were a prolific sex abuser."
