A retired bank manager from Devon has just chalked up his one-hundredth TV Licensing threatogram, despite having ditched his TV set more than two decades ago.
It was 1997 when Derek Cheesebrough first wrote to TV Licensing, the BBC's revenue collection arm, to notify them that he had no legal need for a TV licence.
Every couple of months since then, regular as clockwork, a red-lettered TV Licensing missive has dropped through Mr Cheesbrough's letterbox threatening him with prosecution for a crime he has not committed - the heinous crime of receiving "live" TV programmes, or BBC on-demand programmes, without a valid TV licence.
He received his first TV Licensing threatogram the very next week after cancelling his licence.
Mr Cheesbrough claimed that the threatening TV Licensing letters represent "a ruthless, uncaring programme of inducing mental duress to require an innocent recipient to reply when they have no legal obligation to do so".
Despite the evolution of technology, Mr Cheesbrough's non-viewing habits have not changed. He still has no legal need for a TV licence as he never watches normal TV programmes on any device, nor does he watch or download BBC on-demand programmes.
Keeping with tradition, a TV Licensing PR harlot scuttled along in an attempt to defend its treatment of Mr Cheesbrough and the thousands of other pensioners needlessly terrorised just like him.
"We try not to trouble people who genuinely don’t need a licence," the TV Licensing gobshite said.
"We have a duty to enforce the law and so we write to all addresses where there is no TV licence or a current declaration to say that one isn’t needed."
As is normally the case, the TV Licensing PR harlot forgot to mention two very important points.
Firstly, of the 100,000 threatograms posted by TV Licensing every single working day, by its own admission at least 80,000 of those are destined for correctly unlicensed properties; Secondly, despite its regular pretence to the contrary, no-one is obliged to respond to TV Licensing's caustic missives or confirm their no-TV status.
There has never been a better time to cancel your BBC TV licence, starve the beast and take up an alternative legally-licence-free mode of viewing.

All the BBC do is steal money because they are liars and evacuate propaganda to control the masses which is not what the public should be intimidated into paying for. They use secret trannies and promote the transgenda agenda and hire pedophiles to present TV programmes and get away with forcing the public to pay for it and fund their debauch lifestyle. Trees are being cut down and paper is wasted on intimating the public, when they have already been informed that a licence is not required. They have no authority to force a licence on households because they fail to deliver honest and accurate information. They are in abuse of authority and are used by the elite to mind control the public with disinformation.
Prolonged periods of narcissistic abuse and trauma causes brain damage which has been scientifically proven and individuals who have been subjected to prolonged abuse by the BBC with the assistance of TV Licensing bullies, should be compensated and the BBC should be forced to pay for treatment to restore victims of BBC abuse, to normal brain function if it is possible to heal their condition. BBC Narcissistic abuse must be taken seriously and the BBC must be forced to take responsibility for mental health damage that they have caused victims. BBC brutality is out of order and unacceptable. The BBC use TV Licensing as their flying monkeys. They are used to carry out the wishes of the Narcissistic Abusing BBC. The flying monkeys have no boundaries, do not self reflect and will continually abuse the public because there is no accountability and the legal system does not protect the public. The BBC poses an immense threat to the mental health and well being of the public and there must be a safety-net in place to protect the public from ongoing narcissistic harassment and abuse that the BBC are presently unaccountable for. The public should not have to put up with anti social behaviour from the BBC. Narcissistic abuse recovery is not catered for by the NHS so the BBC must be forced to pay for private treatment where necessary.
This is why total non engagement with TVL is by far the best option. Bin those letters!
Their constant abuse of Legally licence free people, and their tactics almost amount to brainwashing as intrusive as that used on Alex in a Clockwork Orange to cure him of his violent tendencies, here the plan is to brainwash everybody into believing you need a TV licence for everything including a Toaster with an LCD display or an old Y2K Nokia that uses Wap and could never display any media from the BBC, ever.
I've just had 20th letter since I stopped watching live TV at the beginning of 2018. The letters become more aggressive as the months go by. Today my letter said I'm due to get an enforcement visit by officers (plural!). So, as usual, the letter ends up in the bin with the rest. There is nothing they can do.
I have had two letters telling me an "Enforcement Officer" will visit me but much to my disappointment, none ever appeared. I am denied the pleasure of telling them what they can do with their TV Licence.
If the Police were to go about their law enforcement activities in the same way as TV Licensing they would soon be in serious trouble for harassment. But TV Licensing seem to be able to get away with it with the help of Parliament and MPS.
The fact is that the TV Licensing laws are practically unenforceable. The only way to get a conviction if to either extract a confession from some poor unsuspecting individual or catch them in the act. Catching someone breaking the law in the own living room is nigh on impossible and TV Licensing know it, so they need to resort to underhand methods in order to do what they have to, including harassment and intimidation.
Years ago before the Internet came along they could play on peoples ignorance where they could frighten people with "detector vans" or claim that mere possession of a TV required a licence.
Now that we have the Internet and a web sites like this, ignorance no longer prevails and people a much more aware of what there rights and how little authority some "enforcement officer" has when he knock on your door. It is no so easy to bamboozle people as it used to be.
Reminds me of the 1970's when CB Radio hit the streets in the UK. It was illegal to uses a radio transmitter without a licence but no licence was available for CB Radio. It was perfectly legal to import them, legal to sell and own one. But you would breaking the law if you actually used one. But for that, you had to be caught in the act which was near impossible as most CB Radios where mounted out of sight in motor vehicles. That did precipitate a change in the law where now there is a free radio band where anyone can operate a two way radio without requiring a licence. There are restrictions but they generally apply to commercial operations using a high power transmitters.
Isn't it time something similar was done to eliminate the farce that is TV Licensing enforcement?
I got 1 letter in the post today, it was all red with a window in it saying "OFFICIAL NOTICE". I'm guessing it wasn't from the National Lottery letting me know I'd just been given a large wad of cash for nothing (I don't play the lottery). :/ It's just a shame that I live in a block of flats, otherwise I'd be shoving these useless, pointless correspondences in to a large barrel full of hot flames and let them BBBBUUUUURRRRNNNNNN. At least I'd have free fuel to keep me warm on those cold winter nights that are a couple of months away. ;)
I'm also waiting for my 'Official Notice' and enforcement officer visit for an £82 'Salmon and Trout' fishing licence I don't have. Because I have not declared I don't need one....
Presumably if they take the same ridiculous and puerile attitude as the BBC, they'll be asking to inspect my property for suspect items such as rods, nets, tupperware boxes of maggots, a fishing jacket, waterproof waders and 'no wife'. Any of these items would naturally mean I'm read my rights and I'd be guilty of being a 'Salmon & trout fishing licence evader'. However, the only maggots would be the last TVL 'Officers' who knocked on my door.
But no, the BBC are the only ones who are that wooden-headed. (Plus my local cretin Nadhim Zahawi MP, who informed me the BBC 'have a right to check if people are telling the truth').
If they don't want people receiving their signals, they need to stop broadcasting them into peoples' homes. Keep your signal out of my house and I won't receive it.
The BBC likes to pretend that its Clown-Goons are "officers" who are based at regional "enforcement divisions" and who carry out "investigations" of particular addresses. In reality the goons just download a number of addresses at the start of the week and then head off knocking on doors hoping to persuade people to incriminate themselves.
Spot on Fred. They like to pick on the vulnerable. They are creepy, slimy door to door salesman. So say nothing and shut the door on them, or never open it in the first place.
I spoke to the police about the continual harassment and intimidation from TV Licensing. Predictably they told me it wasn't a Police matter and the harassment I receive is not a crime because I am not following 'company procedure'. Increasingly we are seeing The police work for private companies and not innocent members of the public.
Here is the police oath:
“I, do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality,and that I will uphold fundamental human rights and accord equal respect to all people, according to law.”
They need retraining methinks.
