Police have issued a warning to householders after a bogus TV Licensing goon visited a number of properties in the Nottinghamshire village of Keyworth.
The man is said to have requested personal information from those he visited, including bank account numbers, National Insurance numbers and birth certificates.
He is described as mixed race or possibly Asian, about 50-55 years of age, of average build and with very short possibly curly dark hair. He was smartly dressed in black boots and trousers and wearing an anorak type jacket. A white estate car was spotted nearby at the time.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "TV Licensing inform us that should an officer be visiting you they will write to you in advance.
"If you are not expecting a visit from any person claiming to be from any service, and you are not expecting them, please do not provide them with any personal details, and call the relevant service to confirm they are official."
Walting it up as a TV Licensing goon? How pathetic can you get?!
A genuine TV Licensing goon carries an ID card similar to that shown above, although experience shows that they are often very reluctant to confirm their identity even when asked to directly by the occupier (read our article on TV Licensing goon recognition tips).
If anyone purporting to be from TV Licensing visits your property, our normal advice holds good - say nothing and immediately close the door. Some legitimate TV Licensing goons are just as devious and dishonest as their impersonating counterparts, so it's never worth the risk trying to engage with them.

One sure sign that this was NOT a Goon. Genuine TV Licensing Goons are Scruffy Oiks ;-)
One more reason why you should NOT allow (people who say they are) TV licensing "officers" into your house, or engage them in discussion.
As if dealing with real TV Licensing visiting officers wasn't bad enough, now we have to deal with fake ones as well. Greeeat!!
