Why we're here:
This blog is to highlight the unjust persecution of legitimate non-TV users at the hands of TV Licensing. These people do not require a licence and are entitled to live without the unnecessary stress and inconvenience caused by TV Licensing's correspondence and employees.

If you use equipment to receive live broadcast TV programmes, or to watch or download BBC on-demand programmes via the iPlayer, then the law requires you to have a TV licence and we encourage you to buy one.

TV Licensing Bullies Target Blind Carlisle Man

TV Licensing continues to send threatening letters to a blind Carlisle man, despite having been told numerous times about his medical inability to watch TV programmes.

It's an all too familiar story, despite the denials and insincere apologies that TV Licensing will invariably now offer.

Chris Mills, 26, has been blind from birth, has no interest in TV programmes and doesn't even have a TV set.

Despite having gone out of his way to explain his unique personal circumstances to TV Licensing, the BBC's heavy-handed revenue generation bullies continue to send him threatening letters on a monthly basis.

"It's borderline harassment really," Chris said.

"If they're going to come and investigate then actually do it - rather than just threatening me with something that never happens.

"It's really horrible. My flat has buzzer entry and it's now got to the point where whenever anyone presses the buzzer, or if I hear a van going past either late at night or in the early hours of the morning, I immediately start to panic."

Chris goes on to explain how TV Licensing threatograms started to arrive shortly after he moved into his flat a year ago. Despite being under no legal obligation to assist TV Licensing, he got in touch in an effort to set the record straight and stem the tide of noxious correspondence.

TV Licensing arrogantly demanded evidence of Chris's disability, so he dutifully provided medical records confirming his optic dysplasia and panhypopituitarism.

"I have been on the phone to them loads of times and they are always quite understanding, but then they still keep sending the letters through.

"I have been contacting them repeatedly, and the threatening letters keep coming through my letterbox.

"I feel like I'm going round and round in a vicious circle. I don't feel like there will ever be an end. It just goes on and on.

"I feel really intimidated and scared in my own flat because of these constant threats - nobody should ever be made to feel like that. The more letters I get, the worse it makes me feel.

"You just want these annoying letters to stop, and for them to stop bullying people. I just wish they would leave me alone."

Sadly Chris's story is far from an isolated case, despite TV Licensing's pretence to the contrary. TV Licensing knows full well Chris's situation, yet it repeatedly sends threatening letters that cause him to live in fear in his own home. There is no better illustration of TV Licensing's despicable modus operandi.

TV Licensing offered the following insincere apology: "We are sorry that Mr Mills has received letters designed for unlicensed addresses in error.

"We are investigating the reason for this and will be contacting Mr Mills personally to offer our apologies for any concern caused."

He should prosecute the BBC for sending letters with threats of extortion! He doesn't even need to reply to them never mind paying the GP or hospital for proof of his blindness. He should total up his costs in calling them and ask for that amount back in compensation plus some extra, "CASH". for them constantly sending him the letters.

I used to get letters from TVL and sent them back stuffed with JUNK mail or if I had no Junk to hand I just put not known at this address. steaming their letter open I just binned the letter and put in the junk and put return to sender on the front.

The greedy BBC has set up this vile system in order to rake in as much money as possible. It doesn't care at all about the distress caused to vulnerable people by its threatograms. It knows that by sending out millions of letters mentioning fake "Enforcement Divisions", and fake "investigations", with fake date stamps, bogus signatures, it will intimidate people who do not need a licence, but it carries on regardless.

I think it's time the BBC's assets were sold off to the commercial sector and the money put to productive use assisting vulnerabler people.

i wouldn't put it past Crapita to fine him without his knowledge if they have his name.

Disgusting but that's the Crapita tasked byu the BBC to ensure every address has a TV Licence whether they need one or not. Didn't they prosecute and secure a conviction on a a Vicar in the 1980's without a TV for having a VDU on an Amstrad PCW Word processor
and he was cleared on appeal?

I used to think the BBC should be transformed into a subscription service but now I think it has degenerated too far. If you look at paragraph 60 of the BBC Charter:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/577829/57964_CM_9365_Charter_Accessible.pdf

it clearly states that the Secretary of State has the power to dispose of the assets of the BBC if the the Charter is brought to an end. I suggest the government takes advantage of this and sells off the BBC, "lock, stock and barrel". The money could be put to good use -
supporting disabled people, for example, and we'd have the gratifying sight of the BBC's overpaid presenters having to clear their desks and exit the building carrying cardboard boxes full of their belongings. Sweet!
