For the last month or so we have been aware of an email circulating that purports to be from TV Licensing.
The convincing looking email asks recipients to get in touch with their bank details so that a refund can be processed in their favour. The email in question is a scam.
As regular readers will know, TV Licensing is in the business of extorting money from the occupiers of as many households as it can. To that end TV Licensing would never send someone an unsolicited email offering them an unexpected refund on their TV licence fee. It just doesn't happen.
Deputy Director General Anne Bulford recently confirmed to the House of Commons Public Accounts Select Committee that it is the BBC's goal to see every household in the UK covered by a valid TV licence. It wants every household to be covered, even though it acknowledges that more than 80% of unlicensed properties are legally-licence-free.
Make no mistake that the BBC is relentless in its drive to extract as much cash as it can from the viewing public. Once it has that cash it makes it as difficult and inconvenient as humanly possible for a licence holder to claim a refund. It would never offer refunds to people on a plate.
Our advice, as always, is to totally ignore anything that purports to be from TV Licensing.
