According to the recently leaked copy of the Dame Janet Smith Review findings, BBC bosses were desperate to bury historic allegations of sexual abuse made by an underage dancer.
Claire McAlpine, just 15 at the time, committed suicide in the early 1970s, only a few months after complaining that a BBC celebrity had lured her into a sexual encounter.
She had worked alongside Jimmy Savile on the Top Of The Pops programme, but it is another BBC star - who is still alive today and cannot be named - that stands accused of taking her back to his flat to seduce.
Claire's complaint came to light when her mother, Vera McAlpine, found a diary entry detailing the sordid incident shortly after her tragic death.
On finding Claire's diary, Mrs McAlpine contacted the BBC to complain about the personality in question, but her concerns were largely ignored, despite the involvement of the police at the time.
The star, who was a DJ at the time of the alleged incident, was questioned by the Dame Janet Smith Review in 2013, but denied any knowledge of Mrs McAlpine's complaint, even though historic evidence indicates he was questioned about it at the time.
The report, which refers to the DJ as "A7", says the 1970s inquiry was inadequate and did not "evince any concern" about Claire's safety. It adds: "Rather it appears to have been designed to protect A7 and the BBC and to fob Mrs McAlpine off."
The Sun approached the DJ yesterday and he again denied any knowledge. When Claire's name was put to him, he said: "I don't know what you're talking about".
Given that it's less than 3 years since he was questioned about Claire by the Dame Janet Smith Review, he's either got a very poor memory or isn't being totally honest.
Given his BBC patronage, we know which of those options we consider the most likely.

Edit: Reading around there seems to be some genuine confusion about whether the victim's name is "Claire" or "Clair", so apologies if we have gone with the incorrect option.

If substantiated, the BBC really seem to have problem with poor folk bearing that name.
Is anyone even suprised by the real Bbc anymore??
Sadly i have the feeling all of this and much more will be swept back in someone elses direction in a slick and concerted pr campaign by them.
It is wrong, all of what was in that report was and they should be held accountable they did not care one bit of any of those victims, they have some amazing two face running children programes and a childrens charity drive with all of this in their cupboards
It makes me mad
Sorry rant over!!
Thanks for your comment Rick, but sadly we cannot publish it.
Let's just say that it's not the first time we've heard that name suggested today!
