Police in North Yorkshire are urging residents to be vigilant after a fake TV Licensing goon targeted an elderly Scarborough lady.
The goon imposter flashed a cheap and nasty looking TV Licensing ID card (not too dissimilar to the real thing actually) when he turned up on the lady's doorstep at 8 pm on 30th July 2015.
He asked for the lady's National Insurance number, claiming it was needed to resolve some sort of dispute with her TV licence (notwithstanding the fact she's entitled to a free one). The man insisted on entering the lady's property, but she turned him away and asked him to return for the information the following day.
Displaying arrogance befitting a genuine TV Licensing goon, the cocky bastard returned at 11 am the following morning and was allowed access to the property. The lady, who doesn't think anything is missing from her property, contacted the police shortly afterwards.
The man is described white, aged in his mid-40s, around 5ft 10in tall, with short, black, greying hair and a clean-shaven face. He was smartly dressed in a thick, grey knitted jacket with leather patches and black trousers.
We really can't stress this enough: Never allow anyone claiming to be from TV Licensing voluntary access to your home. Even if they are bona fide Capita-employed scum, they are only interested in lining their own pockets and ruining your day.
As our earlier post aptly demonstrates, it is increasingly difficult to distinguish genuine TV Licensing goons from imposters. By far the safest option is totally ignore anyone claiming to be from TV Licensing and keep them outside in the cold.
