Live Online Streaming of BBC1 and BBC2

The BBC has just announced plans to live stream two of its channels over the web.

BBC1 and BBC2 programmes will be broadcast live via the web from Thursday, 27th November.

In theory anyone who watches the online broadcasts requires a TV licence, as the content is delivered in real-time. In practice there is no way of checking whether or not you're licenced to watch TV on your PC. The internet service providers aren't going to 'grass up' their clients to the TV licence police.

As always, we recommend you comply with the law by ensuring you're correctly licenced to use the new service. But no-one's going to know if you're not!

    Is this still the case.?
    If you watch an iplayer live stream and are unlicensed are TV licensing now made aware of it.?

    I am a bit confused. If I want to watch live stream via iplayer I have to log in, will the BBC not know I logged in? Or do you not need iplayer for live streaming?

    Yes, if you log in they will know. They have no way of tying an iPlayer registration email address to a TV licence to a physical address UNLESS you have used the same email address for your TV licence. Our advice would be to use a fresh email address and random postcode for registering for the iPlayer.
