TV Licensing goons will be in for a nice little bonus, having just been awarded a 2 percent pay rise backdated to January 2020.
The deal was struck between the Communication Workers Union and Capita Business Services Ltd, which holds the BBC TV Licensing operations contract.
Capita is responsible for the majority of TV Licensing's customer-facing work - field (e.g. enquiry and enforcement goons), customer services, payment processing and the TV Licensing website. It has office-based staff in Bristol and Darwen.
The CWU is also trumpeting its success in securing Capita TV Licensing staff an extra days' annual leave after 5 years' service.
Andy Furley of the CWU said: "This is a great result and I'm delighted that our Capita TVL members have given their union such a powerful endorsement.
"These extra factors put the cost to Capita in excess of 4.5 per cent in total.
"While this 2020 deal was a positive outcome in the circumstances, we were disappointed that we were unable to make progress on a shorter working week or on the vitally important issue of pension improvements.
"But right now, I just want to thank our Capita TVL members for their patience and their support and I'm very pleased that they'll be getting some well-deserved money in their pockets at the end of this month."
In addition to their basic salary, which now stands at the equivalent £9.50 an hour, door-knocking TV Licensing goons have the potential to earn uncapped commission by generating TV licence sales and collecting evidence needed for the prosecution of evaders.
