Tom Jones Slams BBC Bosses Over Last Minute The Voice UK Axing

Welsh music legend Sir Tom Jones has slammed BBC bosses after learning he was being axed from BBC One show The Voice UK at the last moment.

According to his official Facebook page, the warbling 75-year-old, famed for smash hits like "It's Not Unusual" and "What's New Pussycat", was unceremoniously dropped from the show without notice.

Sir Tom said: "In good faith, as part of the team, I'd put the time in my schedule to be involved in Series 5, as I've done so for the last 4 years. I’ve supported the show and the BBC since the beginning.

"I was told yesterday, with no consultation or conversation of any kind, that I would not be returning.

"Having been through plenty of transformations throughout the years, I support and admire creative change. But being informed, as a matter of duty and respect, is an important part of creative relationships.

"This sub-standard behaviour from the executives is very disappointing."

Welsh singer Rita Ora will also be leaving The Voice UK's coaching panel. She will feature as a new judge on the twelfth series of ITV's The X Factor, which is scheduled for broadcast at the end of August 2015.

Eccentric solo artist Paloma Faith and Culture Club frontman Boy George will be replacing Sir Tom and Ora on The Voice UK. The selection of Boy George, a reformed coke addict, has raised eyebrows in certain quarters of the media.

It's been a bad week for Sir Tom. Last Saturday, much to the disappointment of the 7,500 fans in attendance, his concert on the pastures of Alnwick Castle in Northumberland was cut short when electrical generators failed half way through.
