We don't believe in coincidences here at the TV Licensing Blog.
Yesterday global hacktivist group Anonymous, known for their distinctive Guy Fawkes masks, protested at several key BBC sites around the country. Yesterday evening the TV Licensing website crashed for the first time we can ever remember. The site has been down for the last 15 hours at the time of writing.
Anonymous hates the BBC almost as much as we do. They accuse the BBC of institutional corruption and turning a blind eye to paedophilia. Just today the national media has reported new evidence that suggests BBC management at the very highest level were desperately trying to hide the full extent of Jimmy Savile's crimes.
The best of luck to Anonymous in their continuing quest to hold the BBC to account.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend". Well done Anonymous. BBC scum.

Mouth, meet Foot.
not protected site simple http can be accessed in seconds, also many employees sell passwords
ReplyDeleteIt was a ddos attack. It wasn't hacked.
ReplyDeleteHacked, DDoS or whatever... the outcome is the same.
ReplyDeleteTV Licensing were seriously inconvenienced and made to look stupid.
That's good!
Self appointed arbiters of justice serve no useful purpose other than to massage their own inflated egos.
ReplyDeleteWhile denying access to the licensing site can be construed as inconveniencing the BBC it also deprives law abiding citizens the right to access a legitimate web site and use it for its intended purpose.
I have no love for the BBC or their lawless Capita strike force, but I can't agree that a DDoS on their site, resulting in it going down, is a good outcome.
ReplyDeleteWhat would you think if your site was taken offline in the same way and you found Capita praising the scum who did it? I suspect you'd take the polar opposite view.
By all means criticise the BBC and Capita for their horrendous behaviour - god knows there's enough of that - but please don't play into their hands by condoning illegal activity against them. They'll be more than happy to turn that against you.
If we suffered the same fate, I would fully expect expect the BBC and Capita to rub their hands in glee.
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't encourage anyone to do what Anonymous (we think) has, however, as it's happened already, it would be dishonest to say we weren't smiling.
Fair enough, but I was referring mainly to your closing comment:
ReplyDelete"The best of luck to Anonymous in their continuing quest to hold the BBC to account."
Whoever it is is not trying to hold the BBC to account. They are vandalising sites by criminally interfering with them.
I can hear the Capita cogwheels turning already... "TV Licensing Blog condones criminal activity such as license evasion and hacking".
We already know that Capita get drunk on their own perceived authority, they would love this.
Still can't use the site and I'm trying to a refund sorted. Hope these idiots don't start on the National Grid or something really critical Idiots
ReplyDeleteI just want to report my experience: I can access their site by a Vista box and a Window 7 laptop. Also from an Android smart phone. No page can be reached from two Linux boxes, one with Linux Mint 15 and another one with Ubuntu 13.10.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me (at least in my case) that they are blocking machines with Linux OSs. Please report here if you are experiencing something similar. Thanks
I am unable to access the TV Licensing site tonight - I am using a Mac and Safari. Not sure if the site is down, been hacked, or just won't allow people with Macs to access the site...
ReplyDeleteAm using Internet Explorer on an Acer laptop and cannot access TV Licensing site. Is it still down?
ReplyDeleteDown for me since yesterday. Tried Chrome, FF, IE, Torch. Nothing.
