DAB Radio Reception

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away the BBC used to actually respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. Now they rarely bother replying "on the grounds of prejudicing law enforcement."

They've since wised up to the fact that many people were able to piece together the different pieces of their FOI jigsaw and create a full picture of just how ineffective TV Licensing actually are.

Crucially, even the Information Commissioner has confirmed that TV Licensing's limited effectiveness relies on the public perception that they have all-singing all-dancing detection equipment and if the truth was out we'd all fall about laughing.

The BBC have now airbrushed their entire stock of old FOI responses, but the damage is already done.

One FOI question posed (FOI request RFI20080234) before the censors were let loose was about the use of a digital television receiver for the reception of DAB radio.

That glorious ray of TV Licensing sunshine, Natalie Saunderson, replied unambiguously that: "You do not need a TV licence if you only use a TV to listen to digital radio broadcasts and not to watch or record television programmes as they are being shown."

So Natalie says you can have that Freeview box without a licence after all!
