Why we're here:
This blog is to highlight the unjust persecution of legitimate non-TV users at the hands of TV Licensing. These people do not require a licence and are entitled to live without the unnecessary stress and inconvenience caused by TV Licensing's correspondence and employees.

If you use equipment to receive live broadcast TV programmes, or to watch or download BBC on-demand programmes via the iPlayer, then the law requires you to have a TV licence and we encourage you to buy one.

If you've just arrived here from a search engine, then you might find our Quick Guide helpful.

TV Licensing Threatograms: Lies, Lies, Lies

Believe it or not we're usually quite reserved with what we say about TV Licensing, but make no mistake that they're a devious, deceitful, morally void and thoroughly incompetent organisation.

Make no mistake either that the BBC, as statutory Licensing Authority, stands firmly behind TV Licensing's sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation against legitimate non-TV viewers.

TV Licensing is like a school yard bully that threatens the small kid if they don't hand over their dinner money. Just like the school yard bully TV Licensing absolutely hates it when the small kid gets so annoyed he punches them back. Thankfully there is an increasing army of people gaining satisfaction by punching TV Licensing back. When TV Licensing has a bloodied nose and pissy pants it usually runs off to the teacher crying, despite it being the aggressor in the first place.

That's a pretty good analogy actually.

One of the BBC and TV Licensing's favourite ploys to coerce people into paying for a TV licence they probably don't need is to send them reminder letters riddled with legal half-truths and innuendo. Their latest example is reproduced in the image above. We are grateful to the reader that sent it to us.

They get off to a very bad start with the entirely dishonest and oh-so-shit-scary headline of "WHATEVER YOU'RE WATCHING, HOWEVER YOU'RE WATCHING IT, YOU NEED A TV LICENCE". Complete and utter bullshit. We're scratching our heads here wondering how the BBC can get away with telling such a barefaced lie. Surely there must be laws against such things? Although we know first hand that the BBC thinks it can pick and choose which laws to comply with.

The law, as written by Parliament and not TV Licensing, is quite clear that a licence is only required for properties where equipment is installed or used to receive or record live broadcast TV programmes. Watching pre-recorded DVDs, programmes streamed from non-live catchup services, CCTV images or similar does not require a licence.

Later on in the letter they suggest that they would like to stop writing to people who don't need a TV licence. Complete and utter bullshit again, because TV Licensing writes back to anyone who claims not to need a licence and dishonestly asserts they have the right to check.

Remember that anyone who is a legitimate non-TV user is under no legal obligation whatsoever to communicate or co-operate with TV Licensing. In fact we strongly recommend they don't, as they will undoubtedly attempt to contaminate your mind with their bullshit.

Your very apt description of Capita employees reminds me of the character Gripper Stebson from the BBC programme Grange Hill back in the day.

I wonder what he's doing nowadays, I believe his name is Mark Savage?

He sounds like the ideal candidate to progress from school bully to the lowlfe rankings of tv licensing bully boy.

One things for sure, if he turns up at my door I won't be handing my lunch money over to him OR £145.50.

Stick a camera in plain view of your front door and they don't call as much.
Ignore all correspondence and never open door or communicate with them.

Treat them like Trolls and don't feed them.

Nice write-up and no less than they deserve.
Like I said in my e-mail I normally just file their bullshit-o-grams in the bin unopened but the new style of envelope got me curious. This is definitely a new low for the BBC and Capita, well as far as letters are concerned, not much beats filming little girls bedrooms.
I dread to think of how those who either don't know the law or are easily intimidated must be feeling on receiving such blatant threats, I am certain that these lies will coerce some people into paying money they do not owe and I am pretty certain there are laws against using lies for financial gain. Will we hear anything in the main stream media, like hell we will. They seem far more interested in whether some celeb has gained a few pounds rather than vulnerable people being intimidated and extorted by one of the nations biggest organisations.
So my advice it never let these criminals get to you, they have no more power than Tesco over what you do in your home.

Neil.

I agree with the camera comment. I've got a dummy CCTV at the window and haven't seen them in over 6 months time. Prior to that they sent about six of them to my door once every two weeks. Because Capita employ mostly middle aged failures who are desperate, they lie and harass without care.

I talk to them all is if they are stray dogs that have are looking for scraps. I open the door and say:
"Go away." in a loud clear voice.

They mostly scamper. The tenacious ones that are particularly desperate for a commission sometimes stick around. But I just close the door in their face and go back inside.

Fortunately for all of them they don't knock a second time.

As liars and thieves don't like being filmed, I would also recommend you opening the door with a mobile phone camera pointed at them. They will run every single time. Check it out on Youtube as it seems to be a bit of a sport up there.
