Believe it or not we're usually quite reserved with what we say about TV Licensing, but make no mistake that they're a devious, deceitful, morally void and thoroughly incompetent organisation.
Make no mistake either that the BBC, as statutory Licensing Authority, stands firmly behind TV Licensing's sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation against legitimate non-TV viewers.
TV Licensing is like a school yard bully that threatens the small kid if they don't hand over their dinner money. Just like the school yard bully TV Licensing absolutely hates it when the small kid gets so annoyed he punches them back. Thankfully there is an increasing army of people gaining satisfaction by punching TV Licensing back. When TV Licensing has a bloodied nose and pissy pants it usually runs off to the teacher crying, despite it being the aggressor in the first place.
That's a pretty good analogy actually.
One of the BBC and TV Licensing's favourite ploys to coerce people into paying for a TV licence they probably don't need is to send them reminder letters riddled with legal half-truths and innuendo. Their latest example is reproduced in the image above. We are grateful to the reader that sent it to us.
They get off to a very bad start with the entirely dishonest and oh-so-shit-scary headline of "WHATEVER YOU'RE WATCHING, HOWEVER YOU'RE WATCHING IT, YOU NEED A TV LICENCE". Complete and utter bullshit. We're scratching our heads here wondering how the BBC can get away with telling such a barefaced lie. Surely there must be laws against such things? Although we know first hand that the BBC thinks it can pick and choose which laws to comply with.
The law, as written by Parliament and not TV Licensing, is quite clear that a licence is only required for properties where equipment is installed or used to receive or record live broadcast TV programmes. Watching pre-recorded DVDs, programmes streamed from non-live catchup services, CCTV images or similar does not require a licence.
Later on in the letter they suggest that they would like to stop writing to people who don't need a TV licence. Complete and utter bullshit again, because TV Licensing writes back to anyone who claims not to need a licence and dishonestly asserts they have the right to check.
Remember that anyone who is a legitimate non-TV user is under no legal obligation whatsoever to communicate or co-operate with TV Licensing. In fact we strongly recommend they don't, as they will undoubtedly attempt to contaminate your mind with their bullshit.
